Starting as the Royal Albert Memorial College in 1829, Exeter has established itself as one of the UK’s most traditional Universities. Voted University of the year 2007 in the Times higher education supplement, Exeter has been firmly anchored in the list of leading higher education institutes in the UK. The recently released Times University Guide places Exeter at number 9 in the country. Exeter features a large number of well-known alumnae; including a large group of dignitaries and public figures, Princess Anne’s children; Peter Phillips and Zara Phillips, the well known author JK Rowling as well as the current President of the Republic of Turkey attended the University.
The Exeter University Polo Club was founded in 1998 and has since established itself as a professional polo club. Membership has rapidly expanded to around 50 playing members and many more affiliate members. EUPC provides weekly sessions at beginner, novice, intermediate and mixed ability levels; which have all had consistently high attendance.
EUPC has been very successful in competition, in the last few. In February 2006, EUPC won the Beginner; both Novice Sections; and the Open Section at the Arena Nationals, and repeated its success in the summer season Field Nationals by winning four out of five sections. Continuing its successful stride, EUPC won the Beginner, Novice and British Open National Cups in 2007.
EUPC receives a large amount of publicity due to its involvement in the University National Championships and various other university matches including the popular RAC Vs Exeter Varsity held annually, and has also toured to locations such as Sotogrande and Argentina.
